Disqualification and Reinstatement

supports former and academically disqualified ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø students who are exploring a return to the university.

Senior Academic Advisors offer limited 30-minute appointments, 10–15-minute drop-ins, and email support to help students understand reinstatement, readmission, Open University or community college coursework, academic planning, possible pathways back to their desired major, and next steps for returning to ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø.

What is Academic Disqualification?

Undergraduate students on academic notice are subject to if their ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø GPA for the Fall or Spring semester is below 2.0.

First-year students who have not raised their ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø GPA to 2.0 or higher will remain on academic notice and will not be disqualified until they have either completed 30 units at ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø or finished three semesters, whichever happens first.

Reinstatement

Reinstatement is the process for requesting the removal of academic disqualification status. Approval of reinstatement allows a student to enroll in classes again but does not guarantee readmission to ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø.

  • The reinstatement process is managed by the Registrar’s Office and requires a formal Reinstatement Petition.
  • Students should review the eligibility categories, required documentation, and signature process listed on the Registrar’s website.
  • You may request reinstatement even if you do not plan to return to ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø, for example, to transfer to another institution.

For more guidance on what to do while disqualified (including taking classes through Open University or community college), see:

Readmission

is a different process from . Readmission is the process of being formally accepted back into ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø as a matriculated student.

If you are a former student who left ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø more than two semesters ago in either Good Academic Standing or on Academic Notice (formerly called Academic Probation), navigate to the Former Students Returning page on the Admissions website.
