Summer Research Internships
In Activity 5, one of the programs run by David Parent is the Summer Research Internship with Gavilan Community College and San Jose City College. This project provides funding for community college students to do research, receive mentorship, and adapt new skills with ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø Faculty over the summer. It is modeled after the current collaboration between CSU Los Angeles and Growth Sector.
Program Setup:
- Students will spend 8-10 weeks at ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø working up to:
- 30 hours/per week
- Research Project
- 8 hours/per week
- Coursera Certificates
- 30 hours/per week
- Students will be paired with an ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø Faculty Member based on:
- Major of Study
- Personal Interest
- In the topic, the Faculty Member has chosen.
- In the 8 weeks, the ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø Faculty Member will mentor the student in:
- Working on a Future Career Plan
- How to transfer to a 4-year University
- Reseach Project
- Once the 8 weeks have passed, the student will have a final poster board of their project and present their work to their fellow peers, ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø Faculty, Gavilan Faculty Members and SJCC Faculty Members.
