About COACHE at ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø

San José State University is participating in the to better understand faculty experiences and to strengthen the conditions that support faculty success.

COACHE is a national faculty survey administered by the Harvard Graduate School of Education. It is used by hundreds of colleges and universities to assess key dimensions of faculty work life: teaching, research, service, mentoring, leadership, shared governance, and institutional climate. Participation allows ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø to compare our faculty experiences with those at peer and aspirational institutions, while still centering local context and priorities.

At ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø, COACHE is grounded in our commitment to shared governance, institutional excellence, and continuous improvement. The survey provides faculty with a structured opportunity to share perspectives on what is working well and where improvement is needed. These insights help inform campus dialogue, planning, and decision-making.

ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø first administered COACHE in 2019, and the current administration builds on that foundation. Engaging in COACHE affirms that faculty voices at ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø are essential to advancing our mission as California’s founding public university. The COACHE survey is a tool that supports thoughtful, collaborative efforts to improve faculty work life and institutional effectiveness.
