Transferring an I-20

If you are admitted, you will receive an admission notice on your MyºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø account, linking you to your admission letter.

If you are transferring from another US institution, you must:

  1. Download a copy of your admit letter from the .
  2. Take your ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø admit letter to your current school and ask them to transfer your SEVIS record to San Jose State University, using the following SEVIS School Code: SFR214F00627000
  3. Ensure you make this request at least three business days before the first day of classes at ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø.
  4. Ensure that you have submitted the required financial documents
  5. Update the mailing address in your MyºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø account to your current U.S. address.
  6. After confirming that your SEVIS record has been successfully transferred to ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø, and your financial documents have been completed on your to-do list, please email us at graduatei20@sjsu.edu. Be sure to include both your name and your 9-digit ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø ID# in the email.

Our office will process your Transfer In I-20 approximately 4-5 business days after we receive your email notification.

Once your I-20 is ready, you will receive your official admission packet electronically.

San Jose State University operates with various school codes. To prevent any delays in the issuance of your transfer I20, please ensure that your previous institution uses the accurate SEVIS SCHOOL CODE: SFR214F00627000

**Please note: A transfer I20 is also required for students that have never attended a U.S. institution, but plan to arrive using another school's I-20. If you have already received an F-1 visa with another school's I-20 but you would like to attend ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø instead, you must arrive in the US with the other school's I-20. You will finish immigration check-in by phone, email, or in-person with the other school and you must inform the other school that you want to transfer your SEVIS record to ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø.

Your initial I-20 from ºÚ¹Ï³ÔÁÏÍø will be canceled since you have already paid for the I-901 fee and received an F-1 visa with the other school. You will then receive a transfer I-20 after you have completed steps 1 - 5 above.
